Senior Mackenzie Chappell plans on joining the ski club.

This winter is shaping up to be full of activities and excitement, thanks to the ski club starting up again.

Mr. Ed Councilor, history teacher, decided to sponsor the club this year.

“It will be a great time,” Councilor said, “and we can get lift tickets for half price.”

According to Councilor, students interested in skiing approached him with the idea to restart the club.

“I am planning on having a meeting during the first week of December,” Councilor said. “I would like to have everything in place so we can start in late December or January.”

The ski club used to be popular with students, but it died out when student participation declined.

Mackenzie Chappell, senior, is interested in joining the ski club.

Chappell said she would like to join the club because she loves snowboarding.

“I love to do things I love with other people,” Chappell said. “It’s an opportunity to learn from each other and get better.”

The club will ski at Mt. Holly, which opened Nov. 15. This is the second-earliest time the resort has opened, with last year’s opening date of Nov. 13 being the earliest. Students will be expected to provide their own transportation to Mt. Holly.

The ski club will focus less on competition and more on having fun while skiing.
