Basketball season is fast approaching, which means it is time for the student section to get ready.

From different themes to Fatheads, Mr. Paul Gaudard, athletics director, is getting students prepared.

Elements of fun being brought to life help spark attitudes and get students involved.

Many themes were incorporated during football season and many fans are hoping to redo them during basketball season.

A few of the themes were a whiteout, neonout and a patriot game. Having a specific theme pumps up fans.

Senior Mariah O’Leary was at every home football game this year. She hopes the camaraderie built among the students during football season will continue into basketball season.

“I liked that everyone set aside their problems and got along and cheered on our team together like a big family,” O’Leary said.

Senior Lexie Harburn agrees with O’Leary and added that cheering on the boys is one of her favorite things to do.

The two liked the Fatheads that were made last year of some of the players and coaches.

Some students also posed as ESPN commentators during basketball season last year.

Even the underclassmen play a big role when cheering on the Hornets.

Freshman Chloe Vollmar loves when there are themes that people participate in. She hopes these continue in basketball season.

Deitrick Young is a senior on the basketball team. He said he appreciates the support of the fans.

“I’m hoping that the student section brings a lot of energy to the games,” Young said.

Juniors Kayla Meyer and Loren Jolin both enjoy cheering on their friends.

Meyer said, “I hope that this year’s basketball student section will be hyped and many people will come and support the team.”

Jolin feels that the best part is being around her friends and embracing the moment.

Occasionally, KHS has a Spirit Bus that takes students to away games.

The cost is $3 for the bus and then the standard $5 to get into the game.

Sophomore Jack Vollmar hopes more people will attend the away games too instead of just the home ones.

The girls’ first game is at home Wednesday, Dec. 2, against Northwestern, while the boys’ first game is Tuesday, Dec. 8, against Mt Morris.

The girls’ basketball and boys’ basketball schedules can be found at kearsleyhornets.org.
