The boys’ and girls’ bowling teams were honored by the state Senate by Sen. Jim Ananich (D-Flint).

On April 21 the boys’ and girls’ bowling teams traveled to the state Capitol to be recognized for their accomplishments over the last two bowling seasons.

The teams were invited to the Capitol by State Rep. Pam Faris (D-Clio) and Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint).

While at the Capitol, the teams  had a full agenda, which consisted of touring the building and being recognized in both the Senate and House chambers.

When the teams arrived, they traveled to the Senate chamber where Ananich gave a short speech explaining to his fellow senators the accomplishments of both teams.

After being recognized in the Senate, the teams traveled to the House floor with Faris, who told the teams some of the history regarding the House and the building itself.

The teams were treated to a pizza in a committee room before going on an in-depth tour of the Capitol and got to see things that many people do not get to see such as the governor’s ceremonial office where he signs bills into law or holds press conferences.

After the tour of the Capitol, the teams went to the Senate floor where Ananich gave them a tour with more history of the building. The teams learned that it is against state law to sit in a senator’s chair.

In the afternoon, the teams arrived in the gallery above the House floor and the coaches of both teams, Mr. Bart Rutledge (boys’ coach) and Mr. Rob Ploof (girls’ coach), as well as the athletics director, Mr. Paul Gaudard, were taken down to the floor for special recognition.

While on the floor, Faris told her fellow representatives about the accomplishments of the team and awarded the coaches with framed recognition by the Michigan Legislature, as well as Gov. Snyder.

The bowlers were also awarded their own certificates signed by Faris, Ananich, and Snyder.

To finish the day, the teams took many group photos on the steps of the Capitol holding up their awards and celebrating their accomplishments.
