Wrestlers compete at state final

Senior Trenton DiGenova (l to r), freshman Dominik DiGenova, senior John Brown, junior Rodney Richards, and senior La’Ron Ruffin traveled to Ford Field to compete in the MHSAA Division 2 Individual state championship Friday, March 6.

The wrestling team traveled to Detroit to compete in the MHSAA Division 2 Individual state finals at Ford Field Friday, March 6.

On March 6, freshman Dominik DiGenova (215) and seniors John Brown (171), Trenton DiGenova (152), and La’Ron Ruffin (135) went 1-2, and junior Rodney Richards (145) went 0-2.

The wrestlers were eliminated from the tournament on the first day.

Dominik DiGenova lost his first match by a 21-1 decision against Milan, won his second match by pin over Allegan, then lost his third match by a 9-2 decision to Whitehall.

Brown lost his first match by a 9-3 decision to Warren Woods Tower, won his second match by an 8-0 decision over Byron Center, and lost his third match by pin to Whitehall.

Richards lost both his matches, the first by an 8-4 decision to Redford Union and the second by a 13-4 decision to Battle Creek Harper Creek.

Trenton DiGeonva lost his first match by a 10-6 decision to Carleton Airport, won by 17-2 tech fall over Pinckney in the third period, and the lost by a 3-1 decision to Pontiac.

Ruffin won his first match by a 4-1 decision over Allegan then lost the two following matches by a 12-5 decision against Southgate Anderson and by an 11-8 decision to Adrian.

This ends the wrestling season.
