Hornets take third at Grass Lake

The wrestling team competed at the Grass Lake Individual Tournament Saturday, Feb. 1, and placed third as a team with 149 points.

Freshman Keegan Doyle (119) and junior Brandon Garvin (130) both went 2-2 in the tournament, winning two by pin and losing two by pin. Doyle had one takedown, one reversal, and three escapes and Garvin had three takedowns and two escapes.

Seniors Trenton DiGenova (152), La’Ron Ruffin (135), John Brown (171), and junior Rodney Richards (145) went undefeated and placed first in their weight classes.

DiGenova won with three pins and a 2-1 decision for the championship match. He had four takedowns, one reversal, and 15 nearfall points.

Ruffin won his first match by pin, the second by an 18-8 decision, and the championship match 8-0. He had seven takedowns, eight nearfall points, and three escapes.

Brown won all his matches by pin and had three takedowns.

Richards won his first match by pin, his second by a 9-4 decision, and his championship match by 10-5.

Sophomore Kaleb Gettings (130) placed fifth with a 3-1 record. He won three by pin and lost one by pin with one takedown and two nearfall points.

Freshman Jacob Mosher (189) placed sixth, winning three of his matches by pin and losing in the placement match.

The Hornets will travel to Clio Wednesday, Feb. 5, to compete in a Metro League tri-meet against Goodrich and Linden.
