Raiders slip past boys basketball

Boys basketball fell to Flushing 61-50 in a Metro League showdown Friday, Jan. 31.

Before the game, a 24-second silence was held in honor of the late NBA superstar Kobe Bryant who passed away Sunday, Jan. 26.

Junior Jo Coleman helped get the Hornets off to a good start, putting up a 3-pointer right after tip-off.

Coleman added another two points on Kearsley’s next possession, stretching the Hornets’ lead to 5-0 in the first two minutes of the game.

Kearsley ended the first quarter up 18-11.

Flushing stepped up during the second quarter, hitting a buzzer beater to close a narrow deficit.

The Hornets ended the first half down 30-28.

The game continued to go back and forth between the teams with the third quarter ending in a 40-40 tie.

The Raiders finished on top in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points to Kearsley’s 10.

Junior Braylon Silvas led the Hornets offensively with 19 points.

The Hornets, now 1-12, will travel to Lake Fenton for a Metro League game Tuesday, Feb. 4.
