Senior JaKeira Wash signed her National Letter of Intent with Macomb Community College Monday, Feb. 24.

Wrapping up her seventh year of playing basketball, senior JaKeira Wash signed her National Letter of Intent to play basketball for Macomb Community College Monday, Feb. 24.

The Monarchs are part of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.

Wash’s favorite part of her basketball career has been her teammates.

“I will miss my teammates the most,” Wash said. “They kept me together.”

Macomb is more than just basketball for Wash.

“When I did my research on Macomb,” Wash said, “they definitely stuck out academically.”

While Macomb is strong academically, their women’s basketball team is also one of the top in the country.

The Monarchs average 97.2 points per game and are currently on a 30-game winning streak.

While Macomb is a community college, Wash has plans to transfer and continue studying physical therapy after her two years at Macomb.

“I plan on transferring to an HBCU (historically black college or university) and getting a higher degree in physical therapy,” Wash said.

Wash is ecstatic about her success at the next level.

“I’m most excited to win a championship with some great teammates,” Wash said.

Wash grew up around basketball so she knew she was meant to play at a higher level.

“Growing up, my dad and his friends would always play basketball outside,” Wash said, “so it was basically all I knew.”

Wash ended her senior year with some advice for younger players.

“Just keep working,” Wash said. “You can never be too good.”
