Girls basketball slays Cavaliers

Girls basketball defeated Corunna 57-44 Tuesday, Jan. 28.

The Hornets improved to 9-3 overall and 8-0 in the Metro League.

Senior JaKeria Wash led the way with 15 points, three assists, four rebounds, and three steals.

Junior Saniaa Walker brought in 19 points, three rebounds, and five steals.

Senior Sydney Walker returned to action, contributing six points, two rebounds, and four steals.

Despite the victory, Sydney feels she didn’t perform her best due to time off. She is thankful for her teammates.

“Personally, I didn’t play well in my opinion,” Sydney said. “I have been out for the past week and it was tough getting back in the groove. My team had my back so the game went well.”

The Hornets will host Flushing Friday, Jan. 31.

The Hornets can’t wait for tip-off against the Raiders, a game in which they can clinch their Metro League division.

“We are feeling good. We aren’t too cocky or too relaxed,” Sydney said. “We as a team know how much this game means to secure our League title.

“We know what we have to do and as captain, I have faith and trust that my team will get the job done.”
