The girls basketball team defeated Swartz Creek 57-40 on the road Friday, Feb. 8.

The victory brought the girls to an 11-3 overall record and a 10-2 league record.

Senior Zaria Mitchner led the way with 11 points, five assists, and six steals.

Junior Jakiera Wash and freshman Saniia Walker also assisted in the win. Wash contributed 11 points and Walker added nine points, four assists, and seven steals.

Mitchner is excited about the victory and the future for her team.

“I feel like the team, as a whole, performed well all-around,” Mitchner said. “No team is an easy win for us. We can’t get sloppy or overlook things at any time. We have to work for it and execute what we know.”

The Hornets are third in the Metro League. Flushing is in first at 12-1, while Fenton is second at 11-2.

The team’s next game is Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Brandon.
