Senior Jamarcus Elerson-Porter was the top scorer of the game on Feb. 17 against Frankenmuth. Elerson-Porter scored a total of 18 points.

The boys’ basketball team crushed Frankenmuth 68-50 on Feb.17 on the Eagles’ home court.

Senior Jamarcus Elerson-Porter scored a career high 18 points.

Coach Paul Adas said the Hornets (9-7, 6-6) played well as a team.

“This was a quality win for our team. Frankenmuth was 13 (wins) and 3 (losses) and was ranked in the state earlier in the season,” Adas said. “The team played with a lot of energy and effort, which led to some tough full-court defense.

Seniors Anton Webster and Bryce Jenkins did not finish far behind Elerson-Porter.

Webster had 16 points, and Jenkins chipped in 14.

Adas was impressed with Jenkins’ contributions.

“Bryce Jenkins had an excellent all-around game with 14 points, seven steals, six rebounds, and five assists,” Adas said.

As reported by MLive, Adas said Elerson-Porter contributed a lot offensively throughout the game.

“His offensive contribution was huge for us tonight, and he came off the bench with a lot of confidence,” Adas said. “Hopefully, he can build on that and finish the season strong. He’s a senior, so I think he’s realizing the sense of urgency in playing some of his last high school games.”

Adas also said the Hornets full-court press worked well.

“We were really able to set the tempo with our full-court press defense early on in the game,” Adas said. “We forced turnovers and were able to score in transition. Our best defense is our press, and we noticed that they didn’t seem very comfortable with full-court pressure, so we decided to use that coming out of the half. Frankenmuth is a quality team, and this was a quality win we were looking for going into districts.”
