The KHS Hall of Fame wall states the main parts of the slogan, “pride, tradition, and excellence”.

In addition to the construction at KHS, the district is revising many other aspects for a fresh, new look.

Kearsley is beginning a process to revise the district’s belief, mission, and vision statements, along with the slogan.

Kearsley’s District School Improvement Team, which was given this task, is made up of administrators, teachers, and parents.

Each month, the members of the District School Improvement Team meet to discuss one of the three aspects awaiting change. They then bring their discussion back to the buildings.

Mr. Kevin Walworth, superintendent, said there are two main reasons for the revisions.

“One of the reasons we are revisiting the items is because it has been several years since the district was working on those overarching principles that guide our instruction and what we want to see for the students,” Walworth said.

The second reason is Kearsley’s use of social media as a communication tool.

The district plans on promoting and celebrating more of the accomplishments from students and staff.

“If we don’t control the narrative about the district and promote the great things happening at Kearsley, others with negative agendas will,” Walworth said.

As of right now, the belief statements read, “Literacy is the cornerstone to success. We will foster lifelong learners. The environment of all schools will be safe and conducive to teaching and learning.

“We must prepare students to be contributing members of society. All students deserve to be treated with respect. Teaching and learning will be based upon high expectations, focused curricula, and appropriate instructional techniques.

“All students need continuous opportunities to maximize achievement. We nurture the social, emotional, and physical development of all learners. All students benefit from a close relationship between home, school, and community.”

The mission statement is, “The Kearsley Community School District is committed to educational excellence. It is our mission to prepare students to be lifelong learners, active citizens and contributing members in an ever-changing world.”

The current slogan is, “Where Pride, Tradition, and Excellence meet.”
