The boys bowling team won the Metro League title outright after beating Flushing on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Kearsley won sole possession of the Flint Metro League boys bowling championship. It is the fourth league title in the last five seasons for the Hornets.

Kearsley did not have to share the title with Flushing and Swartz Creek after winning its match against Flushing 27-3 on Thursday, Feb. 15.

Kearsley finished with a league record of 14-2.

Swartz Creek is behind them at 13-3, while Flushing settled for third at 12-4.

This was the last home match for seniors Chase Gebhardt, Jake Reid, Justin Todd, and Seth Varner.

Senior Seth Varner was bittersweet about bowling at his last home match.

Varner was proud of his team’s performance.

“I went out there thinking we had to get our heads in the game,” Varner said. “I knew we had the ability to come out and win, and we took care of business.”

Due to junior Kyle Langworthy and sophomore Lawson Boshaw both having the flu, sophomores Rodney Baltosser and Ethan Burke were brought up from the junior varsity squad to fill their shoes.

Baltosser was proud that he was chosen to bowl at the match.

“I felt honored that I was given the opportunity to get to bowl with this team,” Baltosser said. “I was nervous but thankful I was able to contribute to the win.”

The Hornets will compete in the MHSAA Division 2 regional tournament Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23 and 24, putting their No. 2 state ranking on the line.

The regional is hosted by Bay City John Glenn at Monitor Lanes in Bay City, which is a switch from last year when the Hornets competed at a regional at Mason.

The Bay City regional’s top teams last year were Marquette, Iron Mountain-Kingsford, and Gaylord. None of this year’s regional teams are ranked besides Kearsley.
