On October 24th, the Kearsley Varsity football team played its last game of the season, which was also the seniors’ last high school game. The game started at 7, but at 6:20, all the senior athletes from the football and cheer teams lined up to be recognized. After the seniors walked with their parents, they went back to prepare for their game. They were ready to compete trying to make their record 2-7.

The first quarter of the game started off rocky for the Hornets. They started off receiving the ball, offense tried to score by charging little by little down the field, but they came up short on the drive. Reluctantly, they had to punt the ball but the defense was working hard. Their hard work on the first drive caused Carmen to also come up short, making them to have to punt. Both teams kept going back and forth until Carmen scored the first touchdown of the game, their 2 point conversion failed, making the score 0-6.

This trend continued throughout the second and third quarters of the game, tiring both teams.

The fourth quarter was the downfall of the team’s morale. As the game continued, Carmen kept getting good runs and catches that helped them charge down the field and score touchdowns. Despite the drop in morale, the team was having fun when the final 5 minutes went onto the clock. The seniors were enjoying the last few minutes they had left playing their last high school game.

A player that played well on senior night was Senior Trevor Griffith, making tackles and blocking for the quarterback, allowing him to make plays.

When asked, how do you think you performed last Friday night at the game, Griffith said, “I thought I had a good game, but the team spirit was down.”

Even though the season didn’t go how they envisioned,  they did have one positive thing to come out of this season: senior Aiden Schriner received first team in the Flint Metro League for punter.

When asked about how he felt about getting first team for punter Schriner said, “I feel honored to be the only football player to get first team.”

Overall, the seniors enjoyed their final game, even if it wasn’t perfect. The last season has been memorable for these athletes despite setbacks.
