Drivers training will begin in June 2016 at Kearsley High School.

“Stay off the roads!”

This is a common phrase said by anxious parents when they send their children to drivers training.

Of course those young teens do not drive well. They have not learned to drive yet.

Kearsley’s drivers training can fix this.

This summer’s classes are June 16 through July 7, Monday through Friday. The first session will be 7-9 a.m. and the second session will be from 9-11 a.m.

If the dates of the first classes are inconvenient for students, they can take the classes from July 5 to July 25, Monday through Friday.

Students should take into consideration family vacations, summer sports, and camps when deciding what classes to sign up for.

Many students seem to think that anyone can take drivers training as long as they are eligible by age, meaning they have had a birthday prior to November 1, 2001 and of the age of 14 and nine months. However, this is wrong.

Students must remain academically eligible by holding a 1.5 GPA in order to take drivers training.

Classes cost $385, including segment one, segment two, and a $50 non-refundable deposit.

The only exception to the non-refundable fee is for ineligibility of the student or class cancellation due to low enrollment numbers. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The maximum enrollment is 100 students, and this number will not be exceeded.

When attending drivers training you are only allowed one absence, and it must be made up prior to the class ending.

If two days are missed you are required to make up the class, so students need to be sure they can attend all of their classes.

Sophomore Marysa Gatica took Kearsley’s drivers training last summer.

“It was a lot better than I expected,” Gatica said. “It was a lot of fun. Seeing Mr. (Andy) Nester was probably the best part of the class.”
