Softball splits doubleheader with Frankenmuth, suffers first loss

The softball team split its doubleheader at Frankenmuth on Wednesday, April 20.

Kearsley 10, Frankenmuth 8

The Kearsley Hornets traveled to Frankenmuth to play the Eagles on Wednesday, April 20.

Sophomores Olivia Dunsmore and Katie Lewis and senior Sydney Ouellette pitched in the first game. They combined for six strikeouts.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Foco and seniors Brianna Finley and Brooke Crow did well at the plate. Each of them had two hits and they all combined for six RBIs.

Kearsley 2, Frankenmuth 9

In the nightcap Kearsley struggled against Frankenmuth, losing 9-2.

Ouellette got the start on the mound, going five innings. She gave up 15 hits and struck out two. Sophomore Katie Lewis pitched in relief, going one inning and giving up zero hits.

Junior Kayla Meyer and senior Brianna Finley and Ouellette led the Hornets as they combined for five hits.

With the split, the Hornets break their undefeated record and are now 9-1 overall, 4-0 in the league.

Kearsley looks to get a pair of wins as it prepares to play at Owosso in the K-O Clash on Friday, April 22, at 4 p.m.
