The Corunna Cavaliers and Kearsley Hornets pose after a game that is part of the inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer Challenget between teams from the Genesee Area Conference and the Flint Metro League. Corunna hosted the contest Monday, Feb. 22.

The girls’ basketball team lost their last two games, most recently falling 58-38 on Monday, Feb. 22, at Corunna High School.

The non-league game was part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge, which is a fundraiser between the Genesee Area Conference and the Flint Metro League. This is the first year of the challenge.

Senior Diane Bond led a struggling Hornets offense, throwing up 15 points in the penultimate game of her high school career.

The guard did the lions share of her scoring from beyond the arc, going 3-for-7 on 3-pointers. She also made each of her six attempted free throws.

Ball control told the story of the game, as Kearsley managed only seven steals to Corunna’s 19.

Mackenzie Ramey, freshman, came in clutch for her team scoring eight points and tying for the team lead in rebounds with two.

The girls also lost on Friday, Feb. 19, falling 50-38 at Brandon.

Junior Brandi Morgan was a force on offense, turning in 17 points despite only going to the free-throw line once.

She went 6-for-11 from the field overall, including four 3-pointers.

Bond also did well in this game, scoring seven points and dishing three assists.

After losing the pair of games, the girls now sit at 3-16 overall, and 1-13 in Flint Metro League contests.

The Hornets hope to come out with a win in their final game of the season, heading to Clio to take on the Mustangs on Friday, Feb. 26.
