Wrestling wins first league championship in 13 years

The wrestling team claimed the Metro League championship after winning the league tournament at Fenton on Saturday, Feb. 6.

The wrestling team won the Metro League Tournament at Fenton with 191 points, Saturday, Feb. 6 and claimed the overall league title.

Linden placed second with 35 points and also was the overall league runner-up.

After finishing the regular season 7-0 in the league, the tournament victory propelled the Hornets into the league championship.

Some Hornets also placed individually.

Sophomore Andy Ruhstorfer, senior Coi Jenkins, and junior Dylan Tarrance all placed first in their weight groups.

Seniors Aaron Ruhstorfer and Travis Wildfong, juniors Zach Elizondo, Reese Harburn, and Marcus Moss placed second.

Junior Dominick Buterakos and senior Merrik White also placed third.

This is the Hornets first wrestling championship since 2003.

The team did so well this season that the league named Coach Luther Brown the Metro League Coach of the Year.

This is the second consecutive year Brown has acquired this award.
