The Target on Lapeer Road will be closing its doors on Jan. 30, 2016.

Target announced recently that it would be closing 13 stores around the nation, including its Flint store located on Lapeer Road.

Target has encountered some difficulty over the past few years.

In 2013, the store’s database was hacked and the personal information of customers was breached.

In January of 2015, Target closed all 133 of its stores in Canada due to lack of the stores’ popularity, and in March, June, and September the franchise laid off around 2,000 employees.

However, the company has denied that the closing of these 13 stores reflects the company as a whole, but rather the sales, or lack thereof, of each individual location.

The stores are set to close Jan. 30, 2016.

Many students are sad to hear that the Flint location will be closing its doors.

Senior Kelsie Rose loves shopping at Target.

Rose said, “I am deeply saddened that one of my favorite stores is closing.”

After Jan. 30, the closest Target will be on Miller Road, but for those residing in the Kearsley district, it requires a drive across town.

I am disappointed because now I will have to drive to Miller Road, or farther, if I want to go to Target.

— Jordan Gohs, senior

Many students feel that they will not be able to shop at Target as much as they have in the past due to the distance. They are accustomed to a short 10-minute trip to the Target on Lapeer Road.

Many students will now have to adjust to the change and possibly find a new favorite store.

Senior Jordan Gohs, however, is determined to continue shopping at Target.

“I am disappointed because now I will have to drive to Miller Road, or farther, if I want to go to Target,” Gohs said.
