Bond, Martin run personal bests at league championships

Senior Diane Bond ran her best race at the league championship Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The girls’ and boys’ cross country teams competed in the Flint Metro League Championship meet on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The girls finished eighth, with 213 total points.

Linden’s 35 earned the Eagles first place.

Senior Diane Bond set a personal record, finishing in 23:07.2 and placing 33rd overall on the course at Brookwood IMA.

“I felt accomplished to cut so much time off of my previous runs,” Bond said. “It was painful during the race, but I felt good afterwards knowing I improved.”

Coming in 36th was junior Lexi Kelly. Kelly ran her 5K in 23:37.3.

Sophomore Brooklynn Dever soon followed in 25:52.9 and placed 43rd overall

The boys totaled 217 points, also finishing eighth.

Clio tied with Fenton with 47 points, but the Mustangs placed first by tie-breaker.

A trio of sophomore runners were tops for the Hornets, led by Donald Martin.

Martin came in 37th overall, running an 18:47.8, which was his personal record.

The harrier has led the Hornets at many meets this season, including at the last Metro League Jamboree on Sept. 30.

Sophomore Jack Vollmar finished in 19:25.2, placing 41st.

Crossing the line in quick succession was sophomore Robbie Parkhurst. Parkhurst ran a 19:48.4 and finished 43rd.

The Hornets will travel to Delta College on Halloween for their final meet. Their regional meet is Saturday, Oct. 31.

Bond said she is “looking forward to running at regionals.”
