Junior Jonathan McKay led the boys’ track and field team at the Saginaw Valley State University Invitational on March 18.

The Hornets competed against 25 other Division 1 schools at the indoor meet on SVSU’s new 300-meter track.

Sophomore Darrion Younger, McKay, senior Trevor Gehrig, and senior Anton Webster won the 2400-meter relay with a time of 5:46.06.

The same relay team ran the 1200 relay in a 2:29.69, placing second.

In addition to the relays, McKay finished third in his individual event, the 400 dash with a time of 52.18.

The top six finishers in each event earned medals.

In the 200 dash, Younger placed third with a time of 23.45, and junior Brandon Scales jumped 6-0, tying for second in the high jump.

Two six places finishes came from senior Alex Spear in shot put, who threw a 43-11 1/4, and Webster who ran the 800 in 2:03.61.

Coach Paul Adas was pleased with the boys’ performance.

“We had several athletes compete very well, and we brought home several medals,” Adas said. “Several of the boys are coming out of winter sports and are not in track condition, but they all competed very admirably. Overall, the performances exceeded my expectations.”
