The Hybrid Hornets drive team — Mr. Steve Nofs (l to r), junior Richard Herta, and senior Jordan Hodgkinson — stands behind their drive station and waits for the game to start at the state championship at Saginaw Valley State University.

Kearsley’s robotics team, the Hybrid Hornets, competed in the state championship at Saginaw Valley State University on Wednesday, April 11, through Saturday, April 14,

In the Ford Division, the Hornets placed 18th out of 40 teams.

The Hybrid Hornets did not make it to the playoffs and will not be going to the world championship in Detroit.

Mr. Steve Nofs, one of the team’s mentors, enjoyed the competition.

“It was fun to work with so many different teams,” Nofs said. “It gave us the chance to show we could do all aspects of the game.”

Despite not making it to the playoffs, Nofs and all of the team members and mentors are proud of how far the team went this year.

“We did what we set out to do,” Nofs said, “to be consistent, competitive, and not break down.”
