Junior Saif Dawan scored 20 points Friday, Jan. 19, against Clio.

The Clio Mustangs beat the boys basketball team 61-56 on Friday, Jan. 19, at Clio High School.

The Hornets scored 25 points in the first two quarters, while the Mustangs had 26. The Hornets kept the game close in the first couple of quarters, but ended up losing the game to Clio.

The top scorers were junior Saif Dawan with 20 points and senior Jack Vollmar with 16 points.

Senior Taveon Harris chipped in nineĀ  points.

Unfortunately foe the Hornets, Dawan suffered an injury in the fourth quarter. Dawan is unsure of what he injured exactly, but he is thinking it is either his Achilles tendon or his calf muscle.

Coach Paul Adas shared what happened to the team once Dawan was injured.

“He covered Clio’s lead scorer and he was having his best game of his career,” Adas said. “What hurt us the most was that Clio made all their free throws at the end of the game.”

Kearsley is 4-8 overall, 1-7 in the league.

The next game will take place Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Flushing High School. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
