An open letter: I love my parent who stuck by my side

Alexis Roof

To the parent who has stuck by my side,

You have showed me the purpose of life, through the hard times that we have gone through.

I do not want to pick favorites but you were the one that I trust the most.

I trust you more than anyone in my life.

You understand me and I understand you.

This relationship that we have formed is unbreakable.

This life that we have been living, has not been easy.

When the divorce happened was when I knew that you were going to protect me with everything in you.

Not many people can say that they can rely on their parents the way that I rely on you.

I can go to you for anything at any time.

You just understand everything happening because you have went through it yourself.

During the time where we had to adjust, you stayed strong.

There is nothing that I can do to make up for everything that you did and that you continue to do.

You have helped me understand that everything happens for a reason and when those things happen, it’s for the better.

One of the most valuable lessons that I can take from you is to work hard for what you want.

I want to let you know that I have put all of my effort into everything that I have done.

Without you I would not be able to challenge myself the way that I do.

I have become the person I am today because of you.

You do not understand all the things that you have done for me.

I have pushed myself to do the things that I do everyday because I want to make you proud.

I know that you want me to have the life that you were never able to live.

I can’t thank you enough, Dad. I love you.

Sincerely,

The child that you never left behind
