The wrestling team maintained its perfect record in the Flint Metro League, defeating Swartz Creek and Fenton on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Kearsley finished with victories over Swartz Creek 45-25 and Fenton 63-8 after hosting the double-dual match.

Going undefeated for Kearsley were seniors Reese Harburn and Zach Elizondo.

Double winners for the day also included junior Malik Davis and sophomore Machai Garza, along with freshmen John Brown, Tyler Bycynzski, and La’Ron Ruffin.

Senior Marcus Moss wrestles at the 285-pound division. He feels good about going into the team’s final league match against Clio undefeated.

“It doesn’t bring any pressure. We’re pretty confident in ourselves and we believe we will win the league,” Moss said.

Kearsley will put it’s 6-0 record up against Clio, which is 2-4, to end the league’s dual-match season.

A victory will give the Hornets a nice cushion going into the league meet even if Holly wins its final match. The Bronchos are 4-2 and in second place in the league.

Moss said the challenge of winning a league title three years in a row is that it puts a target on his team.

“Everyone is trying to knock us off because we’ve been undefeated the past two years,” Moss said.

But Moss said the Hornets will rise to the challenge.

“We just practice hard and prepare ourselves for whatever’s going to come at us,” he said.

The Hornets travel to Marysville Saturday, Jan. 21, for the Gatorade Duals tournament.
