Girls bowling wins tournament, dual match

The girls bowling team won a Flint-area tournament Sunday, Jan. 15, at Richfield Bowl.

The girls bowling team won the Flint-area bowling tournament Sunday, Jan. 15.

Kearsley hosted the tournament for the 8th straight year at Richfield Bowl.

The Hornets started the day strong with a 1,050 in the first individual game and followed that up with a 965 and a 944 and qualified for round two.

The girls then played Baker games against the other seven teams that qualified, wining six of those games.

The girls finished 19 pins behind Davison and qualified second for the final-four match play.

After beating Flushing in the semifinal, Kearsley and Davison faced off for the championship. The Hornets knocked the Cardinals down, winning for the third year in a row.

In league action a day earlier, the Hornets beat Swartz Creek 29-1.

Kearsley started out strong and won the both Baker games, making a 10-0 lead.

The Hornets then won both individual games with scores of 900 and 886 to Swartz Creek’s 771 and 737.

The total pinfall for the match was Kearsley 2,180 to Swartz Creek’s 794.

The girls are now 8-0 in the season.

The next competition for the Hornets will be against Brandon and Fenton on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Cherry Hill Lanes in Clarkston.
