The girls bowling team won its first tournament of the season at the Lila Furnish Classic, which was at Owosso’s Capitol Bowl.

The girls started the day, Sunday, Jan. 6, slowly but later on picked themselves up and shot straight to the top.

The Hornets beat Macomb Dakota in the final 416 to 283.

This is the third year in a row the girls have won this tournament.

Sophomore Mary Wheeler said the team performed well and had help from a new teammate who won a challenge match to move to varsity.

“The tournament went really well, and I think we all enjoyed ourselves,” Wheeler said. “It really helped to have new member (freshman) Samantha Timm come up to the team. She bowled a lot of frames and she filled them all.”
