Kearsley lost 39 pints last week.

But the loss was a gain for the American Red Cross.

The National Honor Society hosted its first blood drive of the year during the school day Dec. 12.

Mrs. Colleen Grathoff, NHS adviser, said the blood drive went well.

“We had 47 people that attempted to donate,” Grathoff said.

Donations totaled 39 pints, just short of the 42-pint goal.

The blood drive serves as a fundraiser for the scholarship given to one NHS student at the end of the year.

Grathoff said the scholarship typically totals about $1,000.

Junior Jasmine Patrick donated for the first time.

“I gave blood because I wanted to be able to help people,” Patrick said.  “I like to help people.”
