Three tips for open houses

Whether you are still in high school, or just graduated, there is a chance you will be invited to an open house … or several.

Summers can be overwhelming if you are invited to several, but there are three helpful tips to stay organized.

Purchase a calendar

Sometimes keeping all of the open house invites on your fridge is not as good of a reminder as you think. Purchasing a cheap calendar can alleviate stress.

Writing down all of the dates and times will help you stay organized. Some of the times may interfere with one another, so it is important to prioritize and stay on top of things.

Plan your outfits

If you are going to one open house, or 12, you always want to put your best foot forward and look nice.

But on those hot summer days, you might not want to overdo it. Checking the weather beforehand is extremely important. You never know what you are in for while living in Michigan.

You are bound to perspire, so dress lightly if you know it is going to be warm.

If you are going to an indoor open house, keep in mind there will probably be air conditioning. It might get chilly. Always be prepared.

Gifts

There is no denying that you may not be very close to graduates for some of the open houses to which you may be invited.

And there is no easy way to ask them if you should give them money for a gift. If you just graduated, chances are you and your friends will both be attending one another’s open houses, but if you each give one another money, you are back to square one.

Giving them a sentimental gift, such as a picture frame, will mean a lot more to them.

If you plan on attending open houses with your family, communicate with your family about how much money they plan on giving your friends as gifts.

Open house season can be overwhelming, but staying organized and planning ahead can make it a smooth process.
