Senior Chad Stephen signed his Letter of Intent Wednesday, May 18, with Saginaw Valley State University to join their men’s bowling program.

“I have always dreamed of bowling in college,” Stephen said. “I am just very grateful for this opportunity, and I can’t even put it into words.”

The Cardinals compete at the NCAA Division I level in men’s bowling.

Stephen is a two-time first team All-State selection.

He was a key member of Kearsley teams that won MHSAA state championships in 2014 and 2015. His team finished as state runner-up in 2016.

In addition, Stephen was also the MHSAA D2 individual state champion as a junior.

In January, he was selected as the Kiwanis Flint Metro League Scholar-Athlete of the Month.

At SVSU, Stephen plans to obtain a degree in electrical engineering.

Currently, he holds a 3.58 GPA.

“I have worked hard in high school,” Stephen said. “I will continue to work hard throughout college, but I am also excited to be there with a bunch of my friends.”

Senior Trent Kehoe, a friend of Stephen’s, admits that he is sad to see his best friend move, but is proud of Stephen’s accomplishments.

“Chad and I have been best friends since fourth grade,” Kehoe said. “And I am so proud of how far he has come. Even though he is going to SVSU, we are still going to stay best buddies.”

When asked whom he thanks the most for supporting him throughout his high school and bowling career, Stephen wasted no time answering with, “My parents, of course.”
