Four seniors signed Letters of Intent for college athletics within the last few months.

Four seniors signed their national letters of intent to participate in athletics at different colleges during the last two months.

Philip Hawes

Senior Philip Hawes signed a Letter of Intent with Olivet College on Monday, April 25, for men’s bowling.

Hawes is excited to attend Olivet.

“I am happy to go to the next level,” Hawes said.

The Comets are an NCAA Division 3 school. This is their first year having a bowling team, so the program will begin as an intercollegiate club program.

Olivet belongs to the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Olivet is a coeducational, private liberal arts college located in Olivet, Mich.

Hawes is a first team All-League bowler who played on this year’s regional championship team that finished as state runner-up.

Coach Bart Rutledge is excited for Hawes.

“Hawes was a real leader. He pushes himself,” Rutlich said. “He is a huge asset to the team.”

Hawes also participated in other varsity sports such as track and football.

Hawes plans to major in insurance and sales at Olivet.

Emalie Lewis

Senior Emalie Lewis signs her letter of intent to play volleyball for Macomb Community College.

Senior Emalie Lewis signs her letter of intent to play volleyball for Macomb Community College.

Senior Emaile Lewis signed her National Letter of Intent to play women’s volleyball at Macomb Community College on March 26.

Lewis will be playing outside and middle hitter for Macomb, which is in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Macomb is located in Warren, Mich.

Lewis has been a year-round athlete throughout her high school career, playing volleyball, basketball, and running track, while being an All-League honoree.

Alexxa Flood

Senior Alexxa Flood signed her letter of intent to bowl for Lincoln Memorial University.

Senior Alexxa Flood signed her letter of intent to bowl for Lincoln Memorial University.

Senior Alexxa Flood signed her National Letter of Intent on April 13 to bowl for Lincoln Memorial University, in Harrogate, Tenn.

Flood has been a member of three league championship teams, two regional championship teams, and three consecutive MHSAA state championship titles.

Flood also earned three All-League honors, and was named to the All-State team in 2016.

LMU competes in the NCAA Division 2 level and is a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Brian Sams

Senior Brian Sams signed with Madonna University, Wednesday, March 23.

Senior Brian Sams also signed his Letter of Intent on March 23 to golf for the men’s team at Madonna University.

Sams is the second Kearsley athlete to sign with Madonna this year, following senior Jonathan McKay.

A second team All-League honoree his junior year for golf, Sams was also a member of Kearsley’s highly successful wrestling team.

Madonna University is a member of the National Athletics of Intercollegiate Association.
