The golf team beat Owosso 175-193 on Friday, April 22.

Senior Brian Sams helped give the team the victory with a top score of 42.

Carding 43 strokes apiece, junior Connor Vansteenburg and sophomore Jack Vollmar followed closely behind Sams.

Coach Andy Nester sees a lot of potential this season with the Hornets despite their few loses.

“The two games we lost have been very close,” Nester said. “The problem is not with their golf skills. They are right where any other team is at. The problem is, mentally, they get too aggressive and sometimes their head just is not in the game.”

Nester has a feeling the upcoming matches will go in the Hornets’ favor.

“If the boys play as I know they are capable of, and we beat Flushing, we will be leading the Metro (League),” Nester said.

The golf team takes on Swartz Creek at the Flint Elks for its next match Thursday, April 28.
