Julie Lemon, senior, will soon star in a Broadway production of “Annie.”

The Broadway musical “Annie” is coming to The Whiting and some Kearsley stars will have their time in the spotlight.

Julie Lemon, senior, and Camille Clarambeau, junior, are going to be staring in the Broadway hit.

Lemon and Clarambeau are both involved in the drama department at Kearsley and are happy to be performing on a professional stage.

“I couldn’t believe my ears when they called me to tell me the news,” Lemon said. “This is my chance to really show my skills.”

Lemon will be playing the role of Annie since the original actress has recently fallen ill.

Lemon hopes for the fellow actress to get well soon but not before she can put her own unique stamp on the character.

“I never thought being an understudy would pay off,” Lemon said. “As it turns out, it has given me the opportunity to be the lead role in a Broadway Musical.”

Clarambeau is also very excited to take her acting and singing skills to the next level.

“The first thing I felt was shock,” Clarambeau said. “But when I realized exactly what was going on, I could not have been any happier.”

Clarambeau will be playing the role of Miss Hannigan after the actress who previously played the role quit because of contract complications.

Clarambeau believes in herself but she is certainly not naive.

“I have faith that I will do well being on a professional stage for the first time,” Clarambeau said. “This is one of the biggest opportunities I have ever been offered, and I am very grateful.”

Mr. John Hall, Kearsley’s theater director, was enthused to find out about his two biggest stars getting Broadway roles.

Being able to say I taught Broadway stars something about acting will always bring a smile to my face.

“I really wasn’t surprised at all,” Hall said. “They are so talented, and they deserve this more than any other students I know.”

Hall also went on to say he was glad to have taught them.

“I have always enjoyed teaching,” Hall said. “Being able to say I taught Broadway stars something about acting will always bring a smile to my face.”

“Annie” will be performed on April 9 and 10 at The Whiting theater. Tickets for the show will be available on the theater’s website.
