The Hybrid Hornets gather at Marysville to celebrate their victory on Saturday, March 26.

The Hybrid Hornets competed at the Marysville FIRST District Competition Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26.

Senior Lindsay Nofs felt that the team performed well, but things were going wrong within the alliances.

“I was a little upset at first,” Nofs said. “The first day, things just didn’t seem to go right.”

Team 5150 competed against 40 other teams while in different alliances and came out in 13th place after the qualifying round.

The top eight teams then became alliance captains, and the Hornets were chosen by the fifth alliance.

The Hybrid Hornets and the alliance they competed with lost in their semifinal.

“On Saturday we were in different alliances, and we did much better,” Nofs said. “We lost in the semifinals, but I am happy with how we performed.”

One positive the Hornets took away from the competition was being awarded the Quality Award for having a robot that performed all of its required tasks and did not break down.
