The girls’ bowling team won its third consecutive state title Friday, March 4.

The girls’ and boys’ bowling teams dominated the Division 2 team and individual state tournaments.

The girls’ team won its third straight state championship, riding a strong performance by senior Hannah Ploof and the rest of her team on Friday, March 4.

Ploof then went on to win the individual state championship, Saturday, March 5, cementing her place as one of the best bowlers to ever attend Kearsley.

Ploof was pleased with the outcome.

“Well, our goal all season was to win the conference, regionals, and state finals,” she said. “We didn’t win regionals, but it was OK because we still made it to state finals, and we ended up winning.”

The boys’ team also did well, finishing as the runners-up for the state title.

The Hornets fell to Lansing Eastern, who Kearsley had beaten at the regional.

Senior Chad Stephen, a staple on the team, went on to finish in the top four bowlers during the individual tournament.

Stephen is proud of his accomplishments, having won the championship in 2015 and finished in the quarterfinals in 2014.

“I feel like I could’ve kept going my senior year,” Stephen said. “But I didn’t bowl up to what I was doing my junior year.”

The Eclipse will publish more in-depth stories covering the bowling teams this week.
