Senior Hannah Ploof has been named Flint Metro League Kiwanis Scholar-Athlete for the month of February.

Ploof puts a lot of her time into bowling and feels great satisfaction for earning this award.

“I’m really honored,” Ploof said. “I worked really hard to earn it.”

This award is given to those who excel athletically in high school sports.

Athletics directors from different schools get together and have a meeting each month to select their idea of the best athlete.

As a bowler, Ploof has earned first-team All-League recognition during her freshmen, sophomore, and junior years.

Within these three years, she has qualified for the individual state final each year. Her junior year, she even made it to the final four.

Ploof’s skills have helped the Kearsley bowling team achieve three Flint Metro League championships, three MHSAA regional championships, and MHSAA Division 2 team state championships in 2014 and 2015.

In her junior year season, Ploof was also named first-team All-State in bowling.

She continues to excel not only athletically, but also academically, maintaining a 3.75 GPA and leading the National Honor Society as president.
