There’s a new club starting up at Kearsley and all for the well-being of the environment.

Mrs. Leah Thomas, biology teacher, will be the mentor of this new club.

After Thomas’ recycling system she organized a few years ago ended, she has wanted to recreate the recycling system and believes the Environmental Club is going to be just what she is looking for.

“People should join the new Environmental Club at Kearsley if they want to help the planet by working to reduce the amount of paper thrown away,” Thomas said. “(They should also join) if they just want to have opportunities to get out and be in nature.”

The Environmental Club’s first meeting is on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 2:30 p.m. in Thomas’ room, Room 811.

Any student interested in signing up is welcome. They only need to come with a good attitude, along with a desire to help conserve the environment.

“We hope to educate people on how to be more environmentally conscious but also get together to have fun doing things like fishing, canoeing, or snowshoeing,” Thomas said. “There are many awesome things to do close by and throughout Michigan, and we all need to remember to get off our smartphones and enjoy it.”

The club’s primary goal is to get students recycling more often. It also encourages students to enjoy nature.

Thomas encourages any students that are willing to help to join the club.

“Students can come together to help our school and community,” Thomas said. “Other schools recycle, so Kearsley should hop on board.”
