Deer hunting season started Sunday, Nov. 15, and lasts until Monday, Nov. 30, for hunters using a rifle.

Hunters will need to purchase a hunting license to legally partake in rifle season.

When buying a license, hunters must first buy a base license, which costs $11.

This license helps the funding for habitats and conservation work on public and private land.

After purchasing the base license, hunters are able to buy licenses allowing them to hunt deer with or without antlers.

For those who want to hunt only one type of deer, the antlerless deer license and the normal, or antlered, deer license both cost $20.

There is also a deer combo license available for $40.

If a hunter is caught with a deer that does not follow the regulations of the license, the hunter may be fined anywhere from $50 to $500 and/or have to serve up to 90 days in jail.

Senior Brennen Diehl knows the importance of getting his hunting license.

“Getting a hunting license is crucial,” Diehl said. “Getting caught without one can have serious consequences that no one wants to have to deal with.”
