The football team lost to Clio 14-6 in their final game of the season on Friday, Oct. 23.

Junior Brandon Byczynski was Kearsley’s only scorer, running eight yards for a touchdown. Senior Josh Roberts could not make the two-point conversion.

This made the score 6-0 Hornets at 8:27 in the first quarter.

Byczynski and Roberts combined to rush 30 times for 218 yards.

The Hornets followed a trend started in their last game, focusing heavily on the run game.

This opened up the passing game, with senior Matt Parkinson completing a 30-yard pass to senior Tyler Schwerin. This was the only completed pass of the game out of five attempts.

Parkinson was splitting time under center with junior Chandler Ford.

Ford struggled against the Mustangs’ pass defense, throwing two interceptions.

Kearsley’s defense did well in its last stand of the season.

Schwerin was catching passes from both teams, with one interception to go along with two tackles.

Leading the Hornets in tackles was Roberts, who had five solo tackles and two assists. He also had a tackle for loss.

Despite Kearsley’s efforts, Clio’s run game could not be stopped. Kane Williams and Jimmy Robinson both scored for the Mustangs.

Running back Caleb Mitchell was tops for his team, rushing 105 yards in 10 attempts.

Mitchell’s efforts earned him the 16th most rushing yards in a Metro League game this season, while his teammate Williams ran the 14th most yards in the league Sept. 25.

The Hornets, last winning on Aug. 28, finished last in the Metro League.
