Seniors, juniors advance to powder puff final

On Monday, Oct. 5, the freshmen faced the juniors and the seniors faced the sophomores in the powder puff semifinals.

The first game, freshmen vs. juniors, ended with an 8-6 victory for the juniors.

Junior Brandi Morgan scored the touchdown and Alexis Allen, junior, kicked the game-winning extra point, which score two points in powder puff competition.

Allen felt great for leading the team to victory with the “winning kick.”

“It was frustrating at first, but we pulled through and got the win,” Allen said.

Jaycee Sword scored the touchdown for the freshman team, but the freshman extra point failed.

The second game, seniors vs. sophomores, concluded with a 20-11 win for the seniors.

For the sophomores, Marysa Gatica led the team scoring all 11 points. Gatica had one touchdown, one extra-point kick, and one 25-yard field goal.

Senior Diane Bond led her team with two touchdowns and senior Tori Niles added one.

Megan Livingston, senior, also kicked an extra point, scoring two points.

Bond is happy with how it all turned out.

“We had a strong offense,” Bond said. “We were able to communicate and switch positions when we needed to. We all worked together to run the plays well, and my team helped me get to the end zone.”

The juniors and seniors will face off in the championship Wednesday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. and admission is a $2 donation for Kearsley Christmas Charities.
