Two boys’ relay teams finish 10th at state final
The boys’ track and field team sent three relay teams and one individual to Rockford on May 30 to compete in the Division 1 state final.
The 1600-meter relay team consisting of senior Anton Webster, sophomore Darrion Younger, senior Trevor Gehrig and junior Jonathan McKay finished 10th, running a 3:28.28.
The 3200 relay also finished 10th. The team consisted of Webster, Younger, Gehrig, and McKay.
The 800 relay finished 20th with a time of 1:36.51. The team consisted of Younger, junior Matt Parkinson, junior Deitrick Young, and McKay.
McKay, who qualified for four events, also made it to the final in the 400 dash. He finished 15th out of 25 competitors, running a 50.81.
McKay said it was stressful being the only individual to make it to the final.
“It was a lot of pressure been the only individual,” McKay said.” Coach (Paul) Adas made sure I stayed focused in order to perform the best that I could.”
