Boys’ track sweeps Brandon, Swartz Creek

Senior Jaylen Shock took first overall in the shot put against Swartz Creek and Brandon on April 29. Shock threw 47-feet, 8 inches.

The boys’ track and field team defeated Swartz Creek 87-50 and Brandon 81-53 at its dual meet on April 29.

There were nine overall first-place finishes.

All of the relay teams excelled at the meet, giving Kearlsey four wins.

The 3200-meter relay team of junior Jonathan McKay, senior Anton Webster, sophomore Darrion Younger, and senior Trevor Gehrig finished in 8:34.8.

Senior Jason Clark, junior Matt Parkinson, junior Deitrick Young, and Younger helped contribute to the team’s victory in the 800 relay. They ran it in a 1:33.4.

In the 400 relay, senior Jason Clark, Parkinson, Worley, and Young clocked a 45.6.

Finally, the 1600-relay team of junior Matt Worley, Webster, Gehrig, and McKay ran 3:33.0.

Individual victories on the track came from McKay in the 400 dash (51.3), Younger in the 200 dash (23.7), and Webster in the 800 run (2:01.8).

The field event athletes brought home two overall first-place finishes.

In pole vault, senior Josh Arnes cleared 9-feet, 6-inches.

Senior Jaylen Shock threw a 47-8, which is his personal record, in the shot put. His throw is currently the best in the Flint Metro League for shot put this season.

“It’s a really good feeling being first in the league right now. Last year and the year before that I was No. 11 in our league, so this is a really big step up,” Shock said. ” I was prepared for the meet. I was throwing really well in practice, brought my all to the meet, and it ended up paying off.”

The Hornets’ top scorers were Webster with 23 points, Younger with 21, McKay with 15 points, and Arnes with 14 points.

Coach Paul Adas’ honorable mentions of the meet are as follows: Younger for the most outstanding runner, Shock for the most outstanding field event, and Webster for the most outstanding performer.
