Track meet canceled due to snow

The boys’ and girls’ track and field meet against Clio on April 22 was canceled due to poor weather.

Winds averaged 15 mph, 0.30 inches of snow fell, and the temperature dropped to a low of 34 degrees.

Coach John Hall, girls’ coach, was pleased that his team did not run in the cold weather.

Hall said that running distance in cold weather is fine, but having sprinters run in cold weather can be dangerous. Sprinters have a greater chance of injuring themselves in the extreme conditions.

Cold temperature reduces muscle contractions and slows down the nerve impulses used to move muscles.

“The Clio girls have stronger distance runners, while we have better sprinters,” Hall said. “It’s better that the meet got rescheduled to a warmer day. Our sprinters will perform better in the warmer weather.”

The home meet was reschedule for May 13.
