The original Hocus Pocus movie came out in 1993 and everyone loved the quirky and comedic tone of the movie.

Its sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, came out on September 30, 2022.

The three witches, a.k.a the Sanderson sisters, were brought back into the real world (again) by two teenagers, Becca and Izzy, the 2 girls are now tasked to stop this mess and stop the sisters.

I asked a few students about their thoughts on this movie.

Junior Maxx Hanley had some mixed opinions on Hocus Pocus 2.

“I thought that the actors did really well with the script they were given. It definitely was a lackluster experience,” Hanley stated.

Junior Xander Kirts also commented on the movie. He didn’t have any good things to say on the sequel to Hocus Pocus.

“I don’t like remakes of movies anyways, it’s never the same and doesn’t age well,” Kirts exclaimed.

Senior Logan Verdier thought the movie was quite dramatic and had similar opinions close to what Kirts had.

“It was fun, goofy and predicable. It reminded me of my childhood with the drama, but I didn’t like the drama it was very typical and the movie didn’t take itself seriously,” Verdier explained.

Hanley believes the first movie is overall just better.

“The original Hocus Pocus is definitely better in my opinion. It just feels so much more smooth than the sequel,” remarks Hanley.

On the other hand, Verdier didn’t see it the same way as Hanley.

“I prefer the second movie over the first one,” Verdier stated.

Hanley thought the movie itself could’ve been better overall.

“They could’ve structured the comedy of the movie better and that would’ve helped significantly,” Hanley mentioned.

Logan Verdier agreed.

“Becca, Izzy, and Cassie could’ve been different with their acting along with the movie being written better altogether,” Verdier said.

Overall, Hocus Pocus 2 has garnered different views on the movie with both good and bad things said about it.
