Student actors and actresses captivated the audience, making them laugh at almost every turn in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” which the Drama Club performed on March 20-22.

The student director Kaley Mooney, sophomore, and the directors, Mr. John Hall and Mrs. Laura Hall, managed to put modern day music, like “Royals” by Lorde, into this not-so-modern play, and made it fun and enjoyable.

On March 22 sophomore Rian Schulz lost her voice, yet she still pushed through the entire play, playing her two parts well.

It was obvious that the students had worked hard to convey this play in the right way, and I think they did just that.

Sophomores Emily Harper and Cody Young played a young couple that undergo problems due to the fairies in the woods messing with them.

These fairies, some ditsy and some evil and conniving, under command of their king, pranced around in their best tutus and dresses, conveying exactly what they needed to convey. The nice fairies truly looked enchanting, while the more deviant fairies blended in with the forest setting.

Helena, or junior Julie Lemon, played her part better than I would have imagined.

Lemon was the highlight of the play for me. She played a love-struck girl, just wishing to be loved by the one man that just does not want her. Not afraid to cry and whine, and beg on her knees for someone to love her, Lemon definitely made me laugh.

If you thought “Drop Dead, Juliet!” was a great play, this one was better. The students are only getting better.

With junior Chris Ropp proudly wearing a dress, and senior Mitch Judd wooing the crowd with his charming donkey mask, this play was a great success.
