Girls basketball stomps Holly, Beecher

Girls basketball won against Holly Friday, Feb. 21 and Beecher Monday, Feb. 24.

Girls basketball bookended the weekend with two non-division victories, winning against Holly and Beecher.

The Hornets improved to 14-5 overall and 11-3 in the Metro League.

They will compete against Linden Friday, Feb. 28, on the road.

Holly

The Hornets defeated Holly 45-37 Friday, Feb. 21.

The Hornets took the lead early on, surging forward 12-4 in the first quarter.

The seniors on the team led the way as they were celebrated on senior night, the last home game of the season.

Senior Kamryn Palka led in scoring with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Senior Markayla Shannon pitched in eight points.

Senior JaKeira Wash brought in seven points, five assists, 10 rebounds, and five steals.

Beecher

The Hornets took on Beecher Monday, Feb. 24, winning 61-46.

Palka led the team with 19 points, nine rebounds, and three steals.

Junior Saniaa Walker contributed with 17 points and seven steals.

Wash brought in 12 points, four assists, eight rebounds, and six steals.

Shannon accumulated 10 points, three assists, and six rebounds.

Palka believes the game went as the team had hoped.

“I thought the game went really well,” Palka said.”We played at a team the whole game and were able to play fast paced like we wanted.”

Palka thinks that the team will finish out the season on a good note.

“I think we’ll definitely finish out the rest of the season the way we want,” Palka said, “with a district championship.”
