After playing basketball for 11 years, senior Sydney Walker is thrilled to continue her athletic career at Lakeland University.

Walker signed her National Letter of Intent to play with the Muskies‘ basketball team Friday, Feb. 7.

Walker will miss many things about high school but most of all the bonds she and her friends have.

“I’m going to miss going to all the athletic events. I’m going to miss my friends a lot,” Walker said. “I’m going to be so far away from everyone.”

In addition to continuing her athletics career, Walker wants to become a guidance counselor after college.

“I plan on studying psychology to get my masters in counseling so I can be a guidance counselor,” Walker said.

Walker chose Lakeland because it suited her on and off the court.

“I signed with Lakeland because academically they offer my major so I wont have to transfer,” Walker said. “Athletically, Lakeland supports me because they have a nice team and I adore the coaching style. It’s the style that I’m used to and I feel like I can contribute a ton.”

Senior Stacia Tipton is proud that Walker will play in college.

“I’m extremely proud of her,” Tipton said. “She’s dedicated so much time and worked so hard for this.”

Tipton is excited to see Walker play in college athletics.

“Being able to watch her play as we’ve grown up and now getting to watch her do what she loves just brings me so much joy,” Tipton said.

Tipton is excited to see what the future has in store for Walker.

“She definitely deserves this and I can’t wait to see all of the opportunities that come next for her,” Tipton said.
