Senior Brendan Evenson dives at the Swartz Creek-Flushing dual meet on Feb. 3. Evenson finished 15th in diving at the MHSAA regional meet on March 5.

Senior Brendan Evenson is the only Kearsley/Clio diver of the 2014-2015 swim and dive season.

After taking sixth place out of 16 divers at the county meet and fifth place out of 10 divers at the Metro League meet, Evenson took 15th out of an outstanding 21 divers at the regional meet March 5 at L’anse Creuse High School in Macomb.

Evenson earned 262.65 points during the meet after 11 dives.

David Thiede of Troy took first place with a score of 408.30 points.

The best dive Evenson performed was a 403C, or an Inward one and half somersault in a tuck position, on which he scored 40.7 points.

Mr. Dave Barrett, diving coach, said a scheduling problem hurt Evenson’s training.

“We needed more time to work up the newer dives before regionals,” Barrett said.

Evenson and Barrett were original informed the regional meet would be held March 7.

The scheduling issue cut two days of practice for Evenson.

Evenson said, “With those couple of days, I could have solidified a couple of newer, harder dives.”

To move on and compete at the state final, Evenson had to place 12th.

“I was only three places out of making it to states, so that’s nothing to complain about,” Evenson said. “I was close.”

Evenson also said that he may have performed better if he had not let his nerves get to him.

Barrett said he is proud of the season. Evenson had a goal of making it to the regional meet, which he accomplished.

Both Evenson and Barrett are happy about how the season went.

Evenson ended the season winning the 1-meter diving event in seven out of eight dual meets.
