Senior Gequez Pano (No. 33) sets a pick on a Lake Fenton defender as sophomore Tyler Csintyan (No. 2) drives to the basket in a boys basketball game Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Boys basketball scraped a 67-63 victory over Lake Fenton in a Metro League showdown Tuesday, Dec. 10, to kick off its season.

Junior Jo Coleman led the team with 24 points and three rebounds.

Coleman gives credit to the Hornets’ momentum for their success.

“It was awesome to come back. The shots just came to me and I executed,” Coleman said. “The momentum was definitely on our side in the second half once we started making our shots.”

Junior Jace Chapman tied the game after making two steals and one layup, drawing a foul, and sinking a free throw all in the last two minutes of the game.

Chapman was excited to make the game-winning points.

“It felt good to help my team,” Chapman said. “It was nice to start off our season with a ‘dub.'”

As the game ended, sophomore Tyler Csintyan chipped in two free throws to stretch the Hornets’ lead to four points.

Csintyan also was the Hornets’ second-highest scorer with 16 points. He led the team with nine rebounds.

“I wanted the ball, so I went and got it,” Csintyan said. “The win felt amazing, especially because of how bad it hurt being down at half time.”

The Hornets, 1-0, will be back in action Friday, Dec. 13, at Flushing for a Metro League matchup.
