Girls basketball fell short in its season-opening game at Carman-Ainsworth Tuesday, Dec. 3, losing 57-51.

Seniors Sydney Walker and JaKeira Wash were top scorers with 21 and 11 points, respectively. Junior Saniaa Walker also pitched in with 10 points.

Sydney is proud of her team’s ambition during the first game of the season.

“We played very well. We played very hard. We left it all on the court at the end of the game,” Sydney said. “Our energy as a team is amazing. (I) couldn’t ask for more energy.”

Sydney believes there are a few things to be improved upon as the Hornets continue on through the rest of the season.

“We need to work on our boxing out and rebounding, ” Sydney said. “Since we are a small team, we have to be prepared to battle with the bigger teams.”

Before the game, Carman-Ainsworth held a moment of silence for Mr. Edward Councilor.

The Hornets will be back on the court Friday, Dec. 6, at Hamady High School.
