Cheer finishes seventh at regional

The cheer team took seventh at its MHSAA regional on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Fenton.

Kearsley had 229.20 points in round one, 222.56 points in round two, and 310.60 points in round three.

The Hornets left Fenton with a total of 781.36 points, their best score of the year.

Madison Kreinbrink, senior, said she tried her hardest at the regional.

“I think we did very good at regionals,” Kreinbrink said. “I gave it my all, and so did my team.”

This was the last competitive cheer competition of the season.

Over the last four months, every cheerleader has experienced their own progress and watched the team improve.

Freshman Kelsey Caughlin said her favorite memory of the season was seeing her friends succeed.

“My favorite memory was when Livy (Olivia Saxton) got her full,” Caughlin said.

Sophomore Annalesa DePottey said spending time with her teammates was her favorite part of the season.

“Bonding with the team was the best part of this season,” DePottey said. “At our last competition, we came together like a family.”

Junior Sierra Walker and senior Makayla Shattuck said their favorite memory was one event the team did as a bonding exercise: bowling.

Walker said, “My favorite memory was when we went bowling as a team. It was a great team bonding exercise, and I got to learn more about my team.”

But with the good, also comes some bad.

Caughlin and Krenbrink all said that their least favorite thing about this season was losing to Swartz Creek in the Metro League by .02 of a point.

While DePottey,Walker, and Shattuck said their least favorite thing was the long practices, usually lasting up to seven hours.

Allen Park won the regional with a total of 794.46 points.

Losing only by 0.9 of a point, Gibraltar-Carlson took second with a total of 793.56 points.

Walled Lake Western took third with a total of 784.72 points.

Fourth place, and the final state qualifier, was Dearborn Divine Child with a total of 781.36 points.
